MINUTES OF A RED RAG MEETING Sunday 18th July Only two people present!. Me and Clive. Money Social on 14 August at Fives Jumble sale August 6 at Fairview Community Centre. Help, jumble to Paul 587381 But only £10 after last issue paid for. 3-week gaps will help - but there's also R.B.L. (Since the meeting a bank statement gives us £33, and donations should pay for issue of July 25th.) Distribution No distributor for Caversham next two issues. Clive will take on Wokingham Road and farm Newtown out to someone else. Clive will have a look at the Bracknell round to see if he can do it. Val Boxall can do Mark's round. Postals Do these all still want the Rag and are they giving us money to cover it? Suggestion of including a note in their next issue. SOS list A list of people who don't mind being rung up and asked for help at short notice . (People with the ability to say no!) We seem to have failed rather dismally to get new people to join either of the production groups, one of which has as its core two people with jobs, the other one unemployed. Such a list would probably make better use of the vaguely-willing. Anyone who'd like to be on it should ring 666681 or 666324. Style sheets I.e sheets giving basic instructions on typing, lay-out, graphics, headings etc for the Rag for the uninitiated. Clive and Sue to look into it. Events Latest layout praised with reservations. Reading Between the Lines --- This was also discussed by some of us a few days later; ideas from then are included here. Format: depends on how much money there is; A4 folded to A5 and stapled; 2-colour cover and insert map. Distribution: free with the Rag plus quite a lot extra - shops might well take it eg. depends on having the money. Basic plan: a map, an Essay on Reading covering history, economy, politics, police, architecture, planning etc (an expanded version of the one on the front page of last year's Guide to Reading). James will do this in collaboration with as many others as he can con into it. Ana will do the map. Then the rest to be divided into sections, each with an introductory paragraph followed by a list, We can't cover everything in the depth of Red Pages. Exact division is fluid. Say: Education; Halls & venues; community groups; countryside and walks; transport; "leisure" ; food and gardening; shops; kids; gay life; women's movement; race; libraries etc; media; entertainment; health; emergency numbers; welfare rights incl housing; "groups" political, anti-nuclear, animal & human rights, campaigns, third world, environmental. We haven't got people to do all these yet. Help wanted. Can we get it out for the Aug 14th issue??? James
